The risks of not meeting Companies House’s ID verification requirements

Company directors, members of Limited Liability Partnerships (LLPs), and Persons with Significant Control (PSCs) will soon be required to complete an identity verification check.

From 18 November 2025, it will be your legal obligation to complete a check during the 12-month grace period before Companies House starts to sanction individuals who have failed to complete their identity verification check.

Failing to comply with the new regulations in place will have serious consequences with which is why it is essential you complete your identity verification as early as possible.

What are the consequences of not verifying your identity?

If you are required to verify your identity and fail to do so, you will be unable to file your confirmation statement with Companies House.

This restriction applies to anyone whose confirmation statement falls due on or after the 18 November 2025 deadline.

It is a criminal offence not to submit your confirmation statement and continuous failures can lead to fines of up to £5,000.

In addition to this, you run the risk of possible disqualification as a company director and your company being removed from the Companies House database.

Additionally, failure to complete identity verification is a legal breach and can lead to you being disqualified as a director as well as face other potential sanctions.

How do I complete an identity verification check?

There are two ways to complete your ID verification.

You can use the GOV.UK One Login platform, but if you feel you need help, many people use a registered Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP).

ACSPs can help you throughout the entire verification process. They can take control to ensure you have completed the check and the correct information has been submitted, minimising the likelihood of errors.

ACSPs offer a straightforward and risk-free service to ensure you have peace of mind knowing your check has been completed in line with Companies House’s regulations.

You cannot afford to miss the deadlines or take compliance for granted, it is essential that you complete your check as soon as possible to avoid any sanctions.
