Leeds accountants smash fundraising target during charity bike ride for Martin House Hospice

Five riders from Leeds based accountancy firm Brown Butler have managed to raise thousands of pounds for Martin House Hospice by completing a tough cycle challenge.

The team set off from Brown Butler’s office in St Paul’s Street on a 90-mile ride to Filey on the East Yorkshire coastline to raise money for the hospice, which provides care and support to children and young people with life-limiting conditions across West, North and East Yorkshire.

Supported by friends, colleagues and clients of the firm, the team of intrepid riders managed to raise £2,298 for the charity – more than double their original fundraising target.

During their ride, the accountants enjoyed beautiful views of Yorkshire from Settrington Bank Hill, stopped off at Martin House Hospice in Boston Spa and finished with celebratory fish and chips in Filey.

The team received regular updates on donations throughout the daylong ride, which helped keep them going as they battled strong headwinds and a total climb of 4,000 feet over their route – including difficult 17 per cent gradients.

Nicola Taylor, a Director at Brown Butler and one of the riders, said: “We had a fantastic ride, taking in some of Yorkshire’s most lovely scenes and all for a wonderful cause.

“We have been blown away by the support and donations we have received from people and many local businesses, which helped keep our spirits high.

“I am sure the money we have raised will be put to good use by this excellent charity, who support so many young people and their families in the region during the most difficult times.”

Brown Butler is already planning to conduct further charity bike rides in future to support local causes like Martin House Hospice.

Donations for the current ride remain open for those willing to show their support. To donate to Brown Butler’s charity challenge, please visit www.justgiving.com/fundraising/brown-butler.
