LEEDS ACCOUNTANTS BROWN BUTLER APPOINTS NEW TAX PARTNER
The Partners are delighted to announce that Matthew will be joining the Brown Butler partnership with effect from Monday 9th January as Tax Partner. Matthew has already brought a number of new clients to the practice and has been actively involved in bringing new ideas to many of Brown Butler’s existing clients.
Leeds-based chartered accountants Brown Butler has promoted Matthew Jaques to tax partner, in recognition of the important role he is playing in the firm’s growth and development.
Matthew currently leads Brown Butler’s tax advisory service. A qualified chartered accountant and chartered tax adviser, he has successful experience in helping all sizes of business, across a wide range of sectors, from large international concerns to local owner managed companies and their shareholders.
The new partner has particular expertise in property taxation, including capital allowances and stamp duty land tax, and has significant experience in advising businesses and individuals on international matters.
Matthew joined Brown Butler in December 2010 from accountants Baker Tilly, where he worked for eight-and-a-half years in two spells, initially as a manager and latterly as an associate director, based in Bradford and Leeds. He also previously spent two years as a manager with Deloitte, after beginning his career with three years as an assistant consultant with PWC, both roles being located in Leeds.
Commenting on his promotion, Matthew said: “I was attracted to Brown Butler because I believe the firm sets itself apart with an entrepreneurial approach. Over the past 12 months, I’ve enjoyed the challenge of growing our tax practice and introducing innovative tax planning ideas. As a partner, I look forward to continuing to provide a proactive, value-for-money tax service to existing clients and welcoming new ones to Brown Butler.”
Welcoming Matthew to the partnership, James White, Brown Butler’s corporate finance partner, said he had undoubtedly strengthened the practice’s offering in a vital area for the business, which was often a key element of projects such as group reorganisations and property work.
James said: “Our clients have benefited greatly from Matthew’s considerable experience and his highly practical and commercial approach. His professional expertise and personal qualities have led to significant new business wins and we see that process continuing in his new role, as he builds his team.
“Matthew’s enhanced status will see him play a more prominent part in the strategic running of the firm overall and means three of our seven partners are under 40-years-old. This is a highly unusual position for an accountancy practice like ours, which puts us in an excellent position for the future.”
Brown Butler is an independent practice with a 90-year history of providing business advice, accountancy and taxation services to a wide range of organisations and individuals throughout the north of England.
